Mayweather named highest-paid athlete

Floyd Mayweather Jnr, who is nicknamed 'Money', has been named as the highest-paid athlete by Forbes.

The American boxer has tops the rich-list, which compiles the top 100 earners in the world of sport.

The 35-year-old, who is currently serving a three-month jail sentence for domestic battery, has finished above fellow fighter Manny Pacquiao, who is in second spot, while former number one golfer Tiger Woods sits in third.

The richest tennis player is listed as Roger Federer, who is the fifth-wealthiest athlete, while Miami Heat basketball star LeBron James resides in fourth.

Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder and former England captain David Beckham also found his way onto the list, sitting in eighth place with a fortune estimated in the region of £29m.
