Amir Khan: 'I deserve chance to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr'

Amir Khan insists that he has earned the right to be the next man in line to meet Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Amir Khan has claimed that he deserves to be the next in line to have a shot at Floyd Mayweather Jr following his recent performances.

The Brit is keen to set up a bout with the unbeaten American in the near future, but it looks like he will be forced to delay any plans until after a proposed meeting between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, who are believed to have made good progress in talks.

"Mayweather wanted me to prove myself at 147lbs, which I did by beating Luis Collazo and then by moving up and beating Devon Alexander - two top guys in the welterweight division who were both coming off good wins," Khan told Sky Sports News.

"I think I've proved myself and I think the fight has to be very close to happening now. Mayweather kept saying I had to prove myself and I've done that so what next? Is he just going to keep putting these obstacles in front of me or is he going to take the fight?

"The fight between me and him would be much easier to make than the Pacquiao fight because we have the same manager and the same promotions team, so why not get it done?"

Unbeaten world champion Kell Brook has previously announced his intention to meet Khan this summer.
