Frankie Gavin to fight Junior Witter for British welterweight strap

Frankie Gavin says that he will "outwit" Junior Witter to win the British welterweight title.

British welterweight title challenger Frankie Gavin has vowed to "outwit" champion Junior Witter.

The 26-year-old has been named as the mandatory challenger for the Lonsdale strap that the veteran Yorkshireman ripped from Colin Lynes in May.

Gavin, who is unbeaten in 13 professional outings, believes that he is the better boxer, but said that he is still wary of Witter's power.

"I respect Junior Witter but don't mistake my respect for fear," Gavin told BoxRec. "I'm technically a better boxer and I punch a lot harder than he thinks I do.

"I will outwit Witter. I expected his fight with Lynes to be a 50/50 fight but Witter picked his punches and held his way to a win.

"He is very awkward and a fighter's punch is the last thing to go, so I expect him to punch hard."

The fight is due to take place before the end of November.
