Carl Froch: Gennady Golovkin brings "fear factor"

British super-middleweight Carl Froch suggests that he is interested in facing unbeaten WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin later this year.

British super-middleweight Carl Froch has admitted that Gennady Golovkin brings the "fear factor" that he would need to be tempted into continuing his career in the sport.

Froch has previously indicated that he is close to retirement after struggling to find a suitable opponent since defeating George Groves at Wembley Stadium, and while that remains the case, the former world champion is showing signs that he could fight on.

Last weekend, Golovkin extended his unbeaten record to 33 fights with a sixth-round stoppage of Willie Monroe Jr - his 20th knockout in a row - and Froch has revealed that he would be motivated to try to inflict the first defeat of the WBA middleweight champion's career.

The 37-year-old told BBC Radio 5 live: "I need the motivation, I need the fear factor and Golovkin brings that. If I decide to fight again, Golovkin's an opponent I'd definitely like.

"It's a very big 'if' because one of my options is to retire. I can safely say in maybe the first week of June, I will be making an announcement."

Any potential bout between Froch and Golovkin is likely to take place at Wembley.
