Groves managed to block a strong left from 'The Cobra' early on in the decisive round, but Froch followed it up with a right which caught his opponent on the chin.

The title challenger collapsed to the floor following the strike and was adjudged to be in no fit state to continue the clash as referee Charlie Fitch immediately call off the contest.

The opening round saw both fighters duck in and out as they weighed each other up, with Groves landing the first blow courtesy of a short right jab before following it up with a left moments later.

Froch threw his opponent to the floor in the second round, but escaped a warning from the referee as the encounter began to heat up even further.

However, the 36-year-old grew more and more into the fight before taking control between rounds three to six, winning the majority of the exchanges with the Hammersmith boxer.

Round seven saw Groves land a big left hook on his opponent, which left Froch shaken up, but the Nottingham-born fighter bounced back to hit a mammoth blow in the eighth to retain his titles and extend his professional record to 33 wins from 35 encounters.
