James DeGale: "I'm not chasing Carl Froch"

James DeGale insists that the IBF super-middleweight title, and not a fight with Carl Froch, is driving him on.

James DeGale has insisted that he is not obsessed with the idea of facing Carl Froch for the IBF super-middleweight title.

The Olympic champion is currently the number one ranked challenger in the division, and he is using a bout against Marco Antonio Periban in Liverpool on November 22 as a stepping stone to a world title fight.

However, DeGale claims that his focus is on becoming world champion, and not on Froch, who has repeatedly suggested that he will look to face an opponent in Las Vegas in the near future.

"This isn't about Carl Froch. I'm not chasing Carl Froch, I'm chasing my dream to be a world champion so whoever's there I'll box," the 28-year-old told Sky Sports News.

"First things first I've got to get past Periban and then, early part next year, I'll be boxing for a world title.

"I can go all the way to the top, I'm boxing for the big fights. I want to be the first British Olympic gold medallist to win a world title and I'm nearly there, I've got to get past Periban."

DeGale has lost just one of 20 bouts since his professional debut in 2009.
