Nathan Cleverly expects rematch with Juergen Braehmer in 2017

Cleverly expects rematch with Braehmer

Nathan Cleverly has confirmed that he still expects a rematch to take place with Juergen Braehmer as his next fight.

In October, Cleverly won the WBA 'regular' light-heavyweight title after Braehmer was forced to retire on his stool with an elbow injury, but he is contractually obligated to face the German-based boxer for a second time.

With WBA 'Super' champion Andre Ward also likely to face Sergey Kovalev in a rematch, it leaves Cleverly free to meet Braehmer in the spring.

The 29-year-old told Sky Sports News: "Rematch obligations - that is the next fight for me. Back in with Braehmer, just a matter of setting a date and venue.

"The fight will happen. I think he will definitely come back for a rematch. He'll be gunning for revenge and will want his title back before hanging up his gloves.

"One last shot he will go for it, it's too big a fight for him to turn down."

If Cleverly is successful in the second bout with Braehmer, he is in line to secure a high-profile fight either in Cardiff or the United States in the summer.
