Anthony Joshua eyeing European title

British heavyweight Anthony Joshua says that he is keen to win the European title during 2016.

Anthony Joshua has suggested that he will target the European title in April rather than facing Dereck Chisora.

After winning the British strap against Dillian Whyte earlier this month, Chisora was linked with a showdown with Joshua should he look to defend his belt on his next scheduled outing on April 9.

However, the Olympic gold medallist has indicated that he wants to claim the European crown, which Robert Helenius won against Franz Rill last weekend.

The 26-year-old told Sky Sports News: "There's nothing wrong with fighting Dereck Chisora, but I don't think that's the route we will be going.

"I'm going to continue down the European route and if we need to defend the British title at times, then potentially [it will be against] the likes of Chisora because I need to fight British fighters.

"There's options, which is good, but personally I would like to go down the European route and try and aim for that belt as well as the Commonwealth and British before I get to world level."

Joshua has won each of his 15 professional fights inside the distance, while Helenius is unbeaten in 22 matches in the paid ranks.
