Ireland boxer Michael O'Reilly will not contest Rio Games provisional doping suspension

Ireland boxer Michael O'Reilly will not contest a provisional suspension from the Rio Olympic Games after failing a doping test last week.

Ireland boxer Michael O'Reilly has decided not to contest a provisional suspension from the Rio Olympic Games.

The middleweight, 23, was told last Thursday that he had failed a doping test due to an "adverse analytical" finding.

O'Reilly originally appealed against the ruling, but a statement handed to RTE on Tuesday revealed that the pugilist unintentionally took a supplement which may have contained a banned substance.

It is understood that O'Reilly is still in Rio de Janeiro but will depart either tonight or in the coming days for the disciplinary process to officially begin in Dublin.
