Katie Taylor "proud" to represent Ireland

Irish boxing hopeful Katie Taylor has admitted that it is a "privilege" to represent her country at the European Games in Baku.

The 28-year-old, who won lightweight gold at London 2012, claimed a convincing points victory over Bulgaria's Denitsa Eliseeva in her opening bout on Sunday afternoon.

Taylor is now looking ahead to a last-eight clash against Sweden's Ida Lundblad later this week, with an 18th major championship title in the pipeline.

"The atmosphere's fantastic and it's a privilege to be here representing my country and at such a big competition," she told reporters.

"We're such a strong team, a very young team as well, but the lads and the two girls have performed to a [high] standard and I'm proud to be a part of the team."

Olympic champion Taylor has not suffered defeat since 2011.
