Qais Ashfaq: 'I always believed I could make final'

Team England boxer Qais Ashfaq says that he was always confident of reaching the final of the Commonwealth Games this summer.

Team England boxer Qais Ashfaq has revealed that his target this summer was always to reach the final of the Commonwealth Games.

Ashfaq booked his spot in the final of the competition after overcoming Kenyan Benson Gicharu Njangiru on Friday, before having a quick chat with Sports Mole.

The question pitted to the bantamweight was whether he had a realistic target in mind before the competition and Ashfaq issued a confident response.

"I genuinely believe that anyone in my weight, as long as I perform, I can beat and that is what I am showing everyone now," said the bantamweight.

Ashfaq could be awarded the gold medal without boxing tomorrow if his opponent Michael Conlan, who opened up a cut in his semi-final with Sean McGoldrick, fails a medical.
