Canada beat Team GB in basketball thriller

Team GB suffer a 73-65 defeat against Canada to record their second loss of the Olympics.

A 73-65 victory for Canada means that Team GB have been beaten for a second time in the preliminary group of the Olympics.

The first few minutes of the contest indicated just how close the match would be, with both teams trading impressive plays throughout the opening quarter.

A second close quarter saw 34 points shared equally between the two sides but the Canadians held a 36-32 lead at half-time in London.

However, Team GB's Johannah Leedham and Natalie Stafford started to control proceedings in the third quarter and the home crowd provided some fantastic support to the team.

Canada started the final quarter ahead by two points but Great Britain increased the intensity of their offensive plays, a tactic that the North Americans failed to deal with.

The result of the match couldn't be predicted until the final two minutes when a period of poor basketball from Team GB allowed the Canadians to restore their lead and close out the contest.
