Report: Team USA could make final roster cuts this week

USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo reveals that the final cuts to the World Cup roster could be made well ahead of the August 29 deadline.

With less than two weeks until the FIBA World Cup tips off in Spain, USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo has revealed that the final cuts to the team could be made on Thursday.

Colangelo suggested that officials could reduce the current 16-man roster to 12 or 13 players after Wednesday night's exhibition game against the Dominican Republic.

"We've said we wanted to wait through the end of the week in New York before we made cutbacks, but that could still change," Colangelo said, ESPN reports.

Team USA must submit their official 12-man roster for the World Cup by the August 29 deadline, while they are scheduled to fly out to Spain on Saturday.
