Golden State Warriors downed by Denver

Nuggets held on in a thrilling finale to continue their winning start to the NBA season.

NBA champions the Golden State Warriors suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of the unbeaten Denver Nuggets.

Stephen Curry scored 30 points and Kevin Durant added 20 but the Warriors were beaten 100-98 in a thrilling finale in Denver.

Gary Harris led the way for the hosts with 28 points as the Nuggets moved to 3-0 and left Golden State 2-1.

The Warriors started fast and enjoyed an eight-point lead after the first quarter but that advantage was down to two at half-time.

Warriors trailed 99-97 with 11 seconds left but Draymond Green missed one of his two free throws when given the chance to level the game.

Golden State still had time for another shot at forcing overtime but Juancho Hernangomez produced a match-winning block to deny Damian Jones under the rim.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are still waiting for their first win since LeBron James left the franchise for the Los Angeles Lakers.

The 2016 NBA champions were beaten 133-111 by the Atlanta Hawks and slipped to 0-3.

Atlanta rookie Trae Young scored 35 points and had 11 assists in only his third NBA game.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are also 0-3 after they were beaten 131-120 by the Sacramento Kings.

Russell Westbrook had 32 points and claimed 12 rebounds while Paul George recorded 29 points, but they could not prevent the Thunder slipping to a third straight defeat.

Imam Shumpert led the way for the Kings, pouring in 26 points, while De’Aaron Fox contributed 22 points and 10 assists.

The Los Angeles Clippers managed what the Lakers failed to do the night before as they saw off the Houston Rockets.

Tobias Harris had 23 points and Danilo Gallinari added 20 in a 115-112 victory.

Houston’s James Harden scored 31 points and had 14 assists in a losing effort.
