David Blatt steps down as Russian men's basketball team coach

David Blatt has resigned as coach of the Russian men's basketball team.

The 53-year-old led the team to the bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics as well as to the 2007 European title.

"I am leaving Russia with mixed feelings," he told the RBF's official website.

"This team was a big part of my professional life but I feel that this is the right time to leave. I am doing it for personal reasons."

Blatt, who holds dual US and Israeli citizenship, has coached Russia for the last seven years and also serves as the head coach of Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv.
