Joel Freeland joins the NBA

Team GB forward Joel Freeland has joined the Portland Trail Blazers on a three-year contract.

The 25-year-old had been with Unicaja Malaga in Spain, but the NBA outfit bought out the final two years of his contract.

"The timing was right to bring Joel over and we're thrilled it worked out," said Portland general manager Neil Olshey.

"He is a rugged interior player with a nice touch around the basket and he plays hard every game. Joel will be a nice addition to the roster."

The forward made his debut for Great Britain in 2006 and has emerged as one of their most experienced players in recent years.

Freeland will join Olympic teammate Luol Deng in the NBA.
