David Blatt cool on importance of starting point guard Dion Waiters

Blatt cool on talk of starting Waiters

Cleveland Cavaliers coach David Blatt has not ruled out the prospect of point guard Dion Waiters being used as a potential sub.

Waiters was a key performer for Cleveland last season, but new coach Blatt has since added options in a similar position in the shape of Mike Miller and Andrew Wiggins, and could also be looking at Ray Allen.

"Dion is a lot of things to this team," Blatt said in an interview with Basketball Insiders.

"I've never seen any particular importance to the emphasis of starting or not, I see an emphasis on playing and helping the team win. That's not to say he will or won't start, that's not the point.

"I think his and every player's motto and desire needs to be to help the team win. That's what's important."

The next NBA season is due to get underway on October 28, when the San Antonio Spurs welcome the Dallas Mavericks.
