Result: Slovakia beat Austria to athletics gold

Slovakia take team athletics gold in dramatic fashion as Austria drop the baton in the final 4x400m relay to finish second at the European Games.

Slovakia have beaten Austria to team athletics gold on a dramatic day at the European Games in Baku.

Before the start of Monday's events it was Austria who held the advantage in the team format, but Slovakia fought back to finish on 458.5 points from 40 events, just 0.5 points ahead of Austria.

Austria looked to be on course for gold heading into the final 4x400m relay, before their team dropped the baton to gift success to Slovakia.

The victory also ensures that Austria go up as champions from the Third League of the European Athletics Team Championships.

Israel took bronze with 439 points, while Moldova and Azerbaijan finished fourth and fifth respectively.
