Laura Weightman glad to get through "messy" heat in Glasgow

England runner Laura Weightman is relieved to have progressed through a "messy" heat in the women's 1500m and is now focused on the final in Glasgow.

Laura Weightman is relieved that she progressed safely from a "messy" women's 1500m heat at the Commonwealth Games and is now focusing on Wednesday's final.

The Team England runner finished third in her semi-final, but only just avoided tripping over a fellow competitor who stumbled into her path on the second lap.

She told BBC Sport: "It was getting a little bit messy but I tried not to panic and I knew my time would come.

"I knew I could rely on my strength at the end to pick off the places. I'm pleased to get qualification out of the way and now I can just focus on the final."

Weightman's teammates Hannah England and Jemma Simpson also qualified for the medal race.
