Marcus Mariota leads Tennessee Titans to overtime win at New Orleans Saints

Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota throws for four touchdowns as they beat the New Orleans Saints in overtime 34-28.

The Tennessee Titans scored a touchdown with the first possession of overtime to help them to a 34-28 win against the New Orleans Saints.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees started exactly where he left off last week, as on his first drive he got the ball to Josh Hill for a 10-yard touchdown to put his team in front early.

Tennessee then got their first points on the board as Ryan Succop hit a field goal after their special teams forced a fumble from punt returner Marcus Murphy.

Brees got his second touchdown pass on their next possession as he found Brandin Cooks over the top of the Titans defence and he ran into the endzone for the 38-yard score.

However, the away team would pull themselves in bizarre fashion as Delanie Walker seized on a tipped deep pass from Marcus Mariota, and the tight end crossed the goalline unopposed as two Saints defensive backs ran into each other as they attempted to intercept the ball.

The home side regained their 11-point lead as Brees completed a drive himself by running the ball home from a yard away.

The Titans made it close again just before the half as Mariota connected with Walker again, who was all alone in the endzone for a two-yard touchdown.

In the second half, the Titans drove down the field straight away but they could not take the lead so Succop was needed again to kick the three points to make it a one-point game.

Brees finally got his third touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter as he found Michael Hoomanawanui from a yard away as the Saints reestablished their lead.

Mariota matched that touchdown total as he found Justin Hunter for an eight-yard score and the Titans quarterback played it to Walker to convert the two-point try to level the game at 28 each.

Succop had the chance to put Tennessee ahead with two minutes to go but the kicker hit the bar from 55 yards away, which would have been his longest career field goal and was his first miss of the season.

Kai Forbath then had the same opportunity for the Saints but this time from 44 yards, but his attempt was deflected and fell short of the posts as the teams headed to overtime.

Titans quarterback Mariota led his team down the field in their first possession in the extra period, and eventually found Anthony Fasano for the game-winning touchdown.

The win gives Mike Murlarkey his first win as interim coach of the Titans as the Saints drop to 4-4 for the season.
