New York Jets owner Woody Johnson has admitted that he would "love" to have Darrelle Revis back at the club, despite the cornerback being under contract with the New England Patriots.
The Jets traded Revis to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013 for a first-round Draft pick, but the 29-year-old soon became available on the free-agent market following his release by the NFC South side.
Revis revealed that he wanted to the return to the Jets but general manager John Idzik passed up the chance, allowing the Patriots to swoop in to sign him to a two-year deal.
Johnson told reporters: "Darrelle is a great player and if I thought I could have gotten Darrelle for that, I probably would've taken him.
"And it was our best judgment to do what we did. Darrelle's a great player - I'd love for Darrelle to come back."
The Jets fired head coach Rex Ryan and Idzik on Monday following the club's 4-12 season.
