Walter Thurmond signs for New York Giants

The New York Giants sign former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Walter Thurmond as a free agent.

The New York Giants have confirmed the signing of the former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Walter Thurmond, following four seasons at his previous club.

Thurmond, who arrives at his new club as a free agent, said that he had a number of potential suitors but was convinced to join the Giants as soon as he met the coaching staff.

"I wanted to meet other teams and see what was out there," Thurmond told the Giants' official website. "Once I came here and met the coaching staff and heard the opportunities they presented to me, I couldn't resist.

"It was a testament to the coaching staff. I got along with everybody, coach Tom Coughlin, the general manager Jerry Reese, the DBs coaches - just great people out here.

"Only 19 teams have won a Super Bowl. To be a part of that group is a tremendous honour. The New York Giants have been able to do that four times in their history. When you do it once, you want to keep going back."

Thurmond made 42 appearances in four years with the Seahawks.
