Jason Pierre-Paul to undergo back surgery

Jason Pierre-Paul has been informed that he will need back surgery before the start of the 2013 NFL season.

The New York Giants defensive end is due to undergo the procedure later today, having sustained the injury towards the end of the 2012 campaign.

NFL.com reports that the 24-year-old will miss the Giants' pre-season training camp, but could be ready for the first game of the regular season.

Pierre-Paul completed all 16 games for the Giants last season, managing the pain of his injury with a series of injections.
