Live Commentary: New York Giants 16-17 Washington Redskins - as it happened

Washington Redskins hosted the New York Giants, hoping to make it three victories on the bounce and get themselves in contention for the playoffs.

The Giants were looking to capitalise on their good season so far and push for a high seeding in the playoffs.

In a close-fought game the Redskins overcame a 16-10 deficit to win the final quarter by a touchdown and the game by a single point.

Q4 0:40Morris is through on third down and that'll do it for the Redskins!

Q4 1:07Morris gets through for another three yards as Washington go past 200 rushing for the match. Timeout for Redskins at 1:07.

Q4 1:53Redskins make four yards and Giants call another timeout. Redskins should be able to see this out.

Q4 2:00Griffin completes a pass down the middle to Garcon for first down and the two-minute warning comes up.

Q4 2:19Morris makes a yard and Giants call a timeout.

Q4 2:55RG3 runs again! He makes up eight yards and is in bounds so the clock will continue. A rush through the middle brings up first down.

Q4 3:51The punter is taken out after the kick and a penalty goes against Washington. It'll be re-punted five yards closer.

Q4 4:10Manning is rushed into a pass by the blitz and throws incomplete, then Tracy is just out of bounds with his catch before a penalty goes against Giants for 3rd & 20. Manning goes short and they're out of field goal range.

Q4 5:22Five-yard gain on first down and Bradshaw then rushes for another three, but a penalty goes against Redskins as Sean Locklear goes down in a heap - it looked as though his leg buckled there. Ouch!

Q4 6:06Giants will start this drive from their 15, still behind by a point.

Q4 6:17Morris stopped for no gain that time before Griffin passes to Paulsen, but pass interference makes it 2nd & 20. Griffin somehow escapes a certain sacking and passes, but the receiver doesn't have a foot down and it's out of bounds. The 3rd down pass is incomplete and possession is back to the Giants.

Q4 7:40Couple of yards run, then another six picked up on the RG3 throw for 3rd & short. Morris, once more, pushes through for the third down conversion.

Q4 9:28Brandon Banks catches on the 40 and is stopped at the 44. Good position now for Redskins' next drive.

Q4 9:40Two yards run by Bradshaw and he picks up another few for 3rd & 4. Then SACK on Manning! It'll be a punt from very deep.

Q4 11:31A couple of throwing plays and Garcon catches in the endzone. The kick is good to make the scores Giants 16-17 Redskins.

Q4 13:25Morris picks up seven yards with another battling run, and he then goes down the left side to pick up the rest of the ground.

Q4 14:50Simple run gets Redskins over the line.

END OF QUARTER 3Morgan catches from RG3, but he's a yard short of the marker. It'll be 2nd & 1 when we return.

Q3 0:40Morris again with the run, this time he gains three. Griffin takes the running on himself once more and goes out of bounds, just ahead of the marker, first down.

Q3 1:55Oh dear. Paul drops a simple catch on the left after RG3 did well to clear himself of the defence. Morris rushes 14 yards after excellent blocking to make up for Paul's error.

Q3 2:45Morris battles to a first down. Good strength there.

Q3 3:09Paul decides to take it out of the endzone and reaches the 15 before he's tackled.

Q3 3:09FIELD GOAL GIANTS! Tynes puts it close to the upright, but it's good and Giants lead by six: Giants 16-10 Redskins.

Q3 3:14Washington look for the blitz and Manning passes to Cruz, but he puts it down. He should have caught it. FG attempt instead.

Q3 3:18Manning looks for the TD pass but it's incomplete and Bradshaw is tackled for a loss on second down. It's 3rd & long and Giants take a timeout before they were timed out.

Q3 4:40Bradshaw runs again and squeezes out seven yards. On second down Manning throws to Nicks on the 20 and he hauls it in.

Q3 5:55Bradshaw gains two yards through the middle and HUGE play from Manning! Cruz is free on the right and Manning finds him over the top - he's out of bounds at the 40.

Q3 6:45After a long delay looking at the ruling, Giants line up again for their drive. It looked an easy call to me.

Q3 6:45Fumble from Morris! It's a turnover and after Griffin's heroics the Giants have the ball back.

Q3 7:30Redskins gain eight with Josh Morgan receiving and Morris gets another one on the rush to set up 3rd & 1. Then magnificent stuff from RG3! He takes it on himself and runs a full 35 yards before being hauled down.

Q3 9:30Morris runs for the yardage on second down.

Q3 10:13Manning has no option but to run from deep and picks up five yards. Wilson cannot make any more on his rush on second down before Manning goes complete to Nicks but he's short of the yards. Giants punt and Redskins get to the 20.

Q3 12:50Nicks gathers on the left but is out of bounds just a yard short and the short conversion is made by a Bradshaw drive.

Q3 13:50Manning's throw on first down drops short and a run is stopped well by the Redskins defence to set up 3rd & long. Manning throws another 3rd down completion, this time to Cruz.

Q3 14:55We're back underway at the FedEx Field. Giants receive.

3.11amIt was a first half full of good offence but there's only been a touchdown apiece. It is very well poised for the second half.

Q2 0:04Manning goes incomplete on first down and he throws into touch on second. He lands third down to Bennett on the 25 and they're in FG range.

Q2 0:22Although picking up first downs will help. Manning this time throws for the gain to half way and 22 seconds remain.

Q2 0:29Bradshaw rushes through the middle for 12 yards and Giants take a timeout. A big ask to get within scoring distance.

Q2 0:35Decent return and Manning will pick up the drive on the Giants's 24.

Q2 0:46A few yards lost on the throw and it's 3rd & 12, Griffin throws on the run but it's incomplete. They'll have to settle for a FG attempt.

Q2 1:01Redskins take a timeout after gaining one on the run. They should at least get a FG to level, with a TD a real possibility before half-time.

Q2 1:30Fantastic play! RG3 finds Garcon in acres and he carries another 20 yards to the 13.

Q2 2:00Good low catch from Garcon gains a first down at the first time of asking. Two minute warning.

Q2 2:32Simple as you like. Bennett creates space in the middle for Manning to pick him out. The kick is good and we're now Giants 10-7 Redskins.

Q2 2:40Bradshaw runs for five yards through the middle and gets another four on second down. At 3rd & 1 Bradshaw tries to push through the wall and the bring out the chain, it's just good.

Q2 4:25Yet another 10-yard penalty for holding against the Giants. On second down Manning finds a huge pass to Bennett and Giants are close now.

Q2 4:51The run on first down loses a yard and Manning runs out of time before the play which adds five yards. On 2nd & 16 the QB again goes long but Griffin interferes against Nicks and Giants are awarded first down.

Q2 6:30Five running yards set up 2nd & 5 and Fletcher makes sure Bradshaw doesn't gain on second down. Penalty against Nicks adds another five and on 3rd & long Manning completes long to Cruz on the Redskins 45. Superb throw.

Q2 8:40Six yards gained on the rush, before Manning goes just incomplete after Reed Doughty taps away. Manning runs away from a sack to find Nicks right on the touchline.

Q2 9:55Safe catch on the 14-yard line, so 86 yards to drive for TD for the Giants.

Q2 10:02No yards gained on first down, and lose a yard on the second. A throw goes incomplete and they'll have to punt.

Q2 11:40Redskins get a 10 yard penalty of their own for holding and they need 20 yards now. Darrel Young comes short for the throw and gains 15 - good play. Then Morris steams through to gain the rest.

Q2 13:20Tynes goes wide! A rare miss from the kicker and Giants end the drive empty-handed. It wasn't a good kick at all.

Q2 13:30Manning throws out of bounds on first down and a penalty pushes them back 10 yards! on 2nd & 20 Bradshaw jinks through well after a short throw to gain nine and Cruz gathers for another six. Giants are withing FG range.

Q1 0:03Bennett catches for four yards and the rush on second down falls just short. It's 3rd & 1 and a run through the crowd from Bradshaw gets them safely over.

Q1 2:10Manning again launches long, but its just too far in front of Cruz who had got free. Good run on second down by Bradshaw sets up 3rd & 2 and Bradshaw this time gains 10 or so yards for a big conversion.

Q1 3:37The ball is just patted away by Griffin to incomplete Manning's huge pass on first down. Hakeem Nicks gathers for nine yards on second down to set up 3rd & 1, which is run to gain a few - good blocking there.

Q1 4:10The kick is returned to the 23, which is where Giants will begin their drive.

Q1 4:16Official review: Touchdown given! The ball was out of Griffin's control and given as a fumble, so the call stands!

Q1 4:16Griffin runs, gains the yards and gets tackled, but the ball wasn't touched and Josh Morgan collects to run over for a TD. We're waiting to see if it'll be given, though.

Q1 5:13Great run from Alfred Morris goes way beyond the yards needed for another first down.

Q1 5:52HUGE play as Garcon gathers wide right for 25 yards. Great throw RG3.

Q1 6:22Kick goes into the endzone and Redskins again will start from their 20. What can they produce with their next drive? It did not last long earlier.

Q1 6:27Field goal Giants! Lawrence Tynes kicks his 30th goal from 33 to open the scoring. Giants 3-0 Redskins.

Q1 6:27The rush from Bradshaw gets nowhere as the Redskins stop him early. Victor Cruz picks up seven yards on the reception to set up 3rd & long, and it's incomplete from Manning. They'll have to kick.

Q1 8:22False start and Giants now have 15 yards to make up.

Q1 8:30HUGE hit on the rush as Fletcher clatters David Wilson, then Bradshaw completes the remaining yards.

Q1 9:50Another completion for Manning and Martellus Bennett gains about 20 on the reception.

Q1 10.30They rush for two and Ahmad Bradshaw takes it on second down to set up 3rd & 5. Manning throws and Jernigan gathers well to complete the yards.

Q1 12:20Giants start their first drive and Manning throws to Bear Pascoe for a first down.

Q1 12:54It's the Redskins's first rush and only a yard gain. They go again through Alfred Morris and pick up another five. It's a throw on third down but Pierre Garcon can't gather and Skins punt.

Q1 14:43It's been overturned. Paulsen got the ball over the line and it's 1st & 10.

Q1 14:43There's a challenge on the decision - to me it looked like he didn't make the yards.

Q1 14:43Griffin goes for a huge throwing play right off the bat, but it's incomplete, before Logan Paulsen drops an easy one to set up 3rd & long - it's complete but has he got over? No! 4th & short.
