Bailey released by Saints

The New Orleans Saints have released veteran cornerback Champ Bailey as part of their roster cutdown ahead of the 2014 season.

The 36-year-old signed for the club during the off-season after being cut by the Denver Broncos at the end of the 2013 campaign.

However, Bailey's performances dipped in training camp and pre-season and he was thus unable to win a place on the Saints' 53-man roster.

Sean Payton's side also cut Robert Meachem, Keyunta Dawson, Shayne Graham, Thomas Welch, Matt Armstrong, Derrius Brooks, Brandon Coleman, Todd Davis, Derek Dimke, Terrence Frederick, Charles Hawkins, Nic Jacobs, Marcel Jones, Seantavious Jones, Tavon Rooks, Derrick Strozier, Lawrence Virgil, Trevin Wade, Pierre Warren and Jason Weaver.
