Stevan Ridley looking to become a leader

New England Patriots running back Stevan Ridley feels that he needs to become a leader for his side following the departure of senior players in the past two years.

New England Patriots running back Stevan Ridley has revealed that he wants to become a leader in the team as he enters his fourth season in the NFL.

The 25-year-old is the senior back for the Patriots heading into the 2014 campaign along with Shane Vereen, following the departure of LeGarrette Blount in the off-season.

"For me, going on year four, it's about time I step in there and if the team calls on me and wants me to take that leadership role, that's what I'm going to do," Ridley told reporters.

"It's kind of strange going from being one of the youngest guys in the room to one of the oldest, but time does that to you.

"I realise that, that there are some guys in there that are looking up to me so I have to do my job to stay on my toes and be their leader at all times — even when the coaches aren't around. Still have fun, but just be a leader and show these guys the right way to do things."

Ridley recorded 773 yards and seven touchdowns for the Patriots in the 2013 season.
