Miami Dolphins part company with Jeff Ireland

The Miami Dolphins have confirmed that they have reached a mutual agreement with general manager Jeff Ireland to part ways.

Ireland joined the Dolphins in 2008 from the Dallas Cowboys and was handed the responsibility of picking with the club's Draft pick, which was first overall and was used tackle Jake Long.

In his first year with the club, they won the AFC East title and reached the NFL playoffs, but were knocked out in the wildcard round.

Since then, the Dolphins have failed to reach the playoffs despite a heavy outlay of spending in the off-season, and following a bullying scandal in the locker room between Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito, owner Stephen Ross deemed his time at the club was over.

Ross told the club's official website: "I want to personally thank Jeff for his hard work and dedication in building the team over the past six years.

"After a series of discussions, we both felt that it was in our mutual best interest to part ways. Jeff was a loyal and dedicated member of the Dolphins and we wish him and his family nothing but the best."

Miami fired offensive coordinator Mike Sherman on Monday.
