DeAndre Hopkins guides Houston Texans to victory over New York Jets

DeAndre Hopkins scores two touchdowns to guide the Houston Texans to a 24-17 victory over the New York Jets in their NFL match at NRG Stadium.

The Houston Texans secured their third win on the spin in the NFL by defeating the New York Jets 24-17 thanks to two touchdowns from DeAndre Hopkins at NRG Stadium.

Both defenses dominated the first quarter of the match as neither offense was able to put points on the board, although the Texans did reach the goalline but JJ Watt was unable to cling on to TJ Yates's pass.

Nick Novak fired a field goal through the posts to put the home side 3-0 ahead, but the Jets responded on their next drive as former Texans kicker Randy Bullock levelled the scores with a 40-yard effort.

Hopkins made a huge play for Houston to regain the advantage for his team when he connected on a 61-yard strike with Yates to reach the endzone after beating the coverage of All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis.

The Jets showed spirit again to fight back at the hosts as Ryan Fitzpatrick led his team to the redzone before drilling the ball into the arms of Brandon Marshall for an 11-yard score.

However, Bill O'Brien's men used a trick play to forge ahead once again as wide receiver Cecil Shorts took a handoff from Yates and lofted the ball to Alfred Blue down the sideline for a 21-yard score.

Houston extended their lead to 14 points as Yates and Hopkins combined for the second time in the match with the quarterback sending a fade to the endzone for the wideout to catch over Marcus Williams.

Fitzpatrick made it a one-score game when he raided through the middle of the line after a play broke down for the Jets to run in for the touchdown.

The quarterback's heroics were to end there as he was intercepted by Edward Pleasant and Andre Hal on the Jets' final two possessions of the match to hand the Texans the win.

The result leaves O'Brien's men at 5-5 in their season in second place in the AFC South, while the Jets drop to 5-5 in their campaign.
