Houston Texans agree new deal with JJ Watt

JJ Watt reportedly signs a six-year contract extension which will secure him more guaranteed money than any other defensive player in NFL history.

The Houston Texans have reportedly agreed on a new six-year contract extension worth $100m (£61m) with defensive end JJ Watt.

The deal affects the final two seasons of his current deal and keeps him with the franchise until 2021, securing Watt more guaranteed money than any other defensive player in NFL history, ESPN reports.

Watt was the 11th selection in the 2011 Draft and was crowned the 2012 defensive player of the year and has also recorded 36.5 sacks in his first three seasons in the league.

Both parties discussed the possibility of a new deal publicly last month, and it appears Watt has been rewarded just days before the start of the new NFL season.
