McCarthy hopeful Matthews's injury not "season-ending"

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy is hopeful that a thumb injury sustained by linebacker Clay Matthews is not "season-ending".

Matthews broke his thumb during his side's win over the Detroit Lions on sack of quarterback Matthew Stafford and is likely to miss a month of the campaign.

"I'm hopeful it's not season-ending," McCarthy told reporters. "I think we're all hopeful, but you have to get all the opinions and make sure you always do right by the player."

The Packers are 2-2 in their season after week five.
