Philadelphia Eagles hold off Dallas Cowboys to clinch NFC East title

The Philadelphia Eagles defeat the Dallas Cowboys 24-22 at AT&T Stadium to clinch the NFC title and a place in the playoffs.

The Philadelphia Eagles have defeated the Dallas Cowboys to the NFC East title and a spot in the post-season playoffs with a 24-22 victory at AT&T Stadium in San Antonio.

Alex Henery scored the only points of the first quarter with a 47-yard field goal and Lesean McCoy added to their advantage with a three-yard touchdown from Nick Foles's pass.

Gavin Escobar somersaulted over Will Allen to score for the Cowboys in the second quarter, but Brent Celek restored the Eagles' 10-point advantage after taking a handoff from Foles.

Dan Bailey chipped three points off the deficit with a 44-yard kick to make it 17-10 at the break.

The 25-year-old from Oklahoma kicked two more field goals in the third quarter to pull his team within a point of Chip Kelly's men.

Bryce Brown went over from six yards to make it 24-16 with just over six minutes remaining, but the Cowboys refused to go quietly and got themselves back in it when Dez Bryant avoided the challenge of Patrick Chung to sprint for home.

Jason Garrett's side were unable to make the two-point conversion, leaving themselves trailing by two with just over three minutes remaining.

However, their chances died when Brandon Boykin intercepted Orton, allowing the Eagles to run down the clock.

It is the third year in a row that the Cowboys have missed out on the playoffs in the final game of the season.

Meanwhile, the Eagles will go on to play the New Orleans Saints in the Wild Card round next week.
