Pettine: 'Success not dependent on quarterback'

Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine believes that a team does not need a top 10 quarterback to win the Super Bowl, and feels that the Seattle Seahawks are the prime example to follow.

Pettine, who was appointed as the Browns' third head coach in as many seasons earlier this month, has said that as long as a quarterback has an excellent supporting cast, he does not need to be a superstar to win the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

"Being a championship quarterback is not making him win the championship himself," Pettine told reporters.

"You saw that happen in Seattle. Would you put Russell Wilson in the top 10 quarterbacks in the NFL? No. It's a team sport.

"They played great defense. The supporting cast around him was tremendous. The very first thing that he did was he didn't lose games when he went out to win them. That's the key to success."

The Browns are widely tipped to select a quarterback in the upcoming 2014 Draft.
