Half-Time Report: Washington Redskins score late to lead at break

Redskins score late to lead

The Washington Redskins scored late in the second quarter to take a 24-17 lead into the halfway stage of their match against the Chicago Bears.

The hosts opened the scoring on the first drive of the game as Kai Forbath slotted over a 38-yard field goal to make it 3-0 early in the first quarter.

The Bears restored parity midway through the opening quarter when Robbie Gould hit a 47-yard kick, and they took the lead shortly after courtesy of a two-yard run from Matt Forte.

Washington hit back early in the second quarter when some good blocking allowed Roy Helu to find a gap and run in for a 14-yard touchdown to level the sides once more.

The hosts then got a second score in quick succession when Jay Cutler's pass was not held by Alshon Jeffrey, who spilled the ball into the arms of Brian Orakpo to return for a 29-yard touchdown.

Chicago responded with a return touchdown of their own as Devin Hester sprinted around the defense before being aided by his teammates on his way to an 81-yard punt return.

The Redskins got the last laugh of the half, however, as Robert Griffin III floated a pass out to the right of the end zone that Jordan Reed caught, getting his feet down just in time.
