A satirical article alleging that the man responsible for the Winter Olympics opening ceremony ring mishap has been found dead has gone viral.

The story, on satirical website The Daily Currant, says that the man, T. Borris Avdeyev, was found in his hotel room with "multiple stab wounds". According to investigators, Avdeyev "fell on a set of knives".

Despite the tongue-in-cheek nature of the story, it has been shared almost 2,500 times on Twitter since it was published on Saturday.

Five snowflakes were supposed to transform into rings during the opening ceremony on Friday, but one failed to change shape.
