Elise Christie eases through to short track semi-finals

There are mixed results for Team GB in the women's short track speed skating 500m quarter final, with Elise Christie progressing while Charlotte Gilmartin crashes out.

Great Britain's Elise Christie has successfully come through her short track speed skating 500m quarter-final at the Winter Olympic Games 2014.

A result of 43.402 was enough to qualify from her heat in second place behind China's Fan Kenix, although her Team GB teammate Charlotte Gilmartin will not progress after finishing fourth in her run.

Kexin is the favourite to win the gold medal, but Christie did well to get to the first corner among the top two and oust Canada's Jessica Hewitt on her way to the latter stages.

Gilmartin had a horrible start to blame for her exit from the competition.

Both the semi-finals and the final of the event will take place later today.
