John Isner has eased into the second round of Wimbledon with a straight-sets win over British wildcard Daniel Smethurst.

The American, who is seeded ninth, took the opening set 7-5 before tightening his grip on the match by claiming the second 6-3.

World number 11 Isner then made sure of the victory as he closed out the one-sided contest 7-5 6-3 6-4.

Waiting for him in the next round will be either Finland's Jarkko Nieminen or Argentine Federico Delbonis.
