Peng Shuai books US Open semi-final spot

Peng Shuai beats Swiss teenager Belinda Bencic 6-2 6-1 to reach the semi-finals of the US Open.

Peng Shuai's impressive run at the US Open continued this afternoon as she dealt with Swiss teenager Belinda Bencic in straight sets to reach the semi-finals at Flushing Meadows.

China's Peng was the first to look shaky on serve, but she saved two break points and took a 2-1 lead before winning four of the next five games to claim the opener 6-2.

It was even more straightforward in the second as 17-year-old Swiss Bencic saw her run in New York come to an end, with Peng closing the match out 6-2 6-1 in just over an hour.

Awaiting Peng, who had never previously reached the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam, in the semis is either Sara Errani or Caroline Wozniacki, who play their quarter later tonight.
