Andy Murray cruises into Shanghai Masters quarter-finals

Andy Murray secures straightforward passage into the Shanghai Masters last 16, where he will face David Ferrer, by impressively beating Jerzy Janowicz 7-5 6-2.

Andy Murray produced a dominant display to reach the Shanghai Masters last 16 with victory over Jerzy Janowicz.

The British number one will face David Ferrer in the next round after his straightforward 7-5 6-2 win in China.

The first set was close in scoreline, but not in nature, with Murray dropping only four points on serve throughout and forcing Janowicz into saving break points in three games before he did break to take a set lead.

Murray's biggest test of the contest came in the opening game of the second, where his powerful Polish opponent had him on the back foot, but the Scot battled to survive two break points and hold.

That was the last time that the two-time Grand Slam champion's serve was threatened, and he delivered a number of impressive backcourt winners to break Janowicz twice on his way to wrapping up the match.

World number 11 Murray is bidding to rise up the rankings to secure qualification for the ATP Tour Finals in London next month.
