Venus Williams powers past Caroline Wozniacki in Miami

Venus Williams produces an upset in the fourth round of the Miami Masters by ousting fifth-seed Caroline Wozniacki in straight sets.

Venus Williams advanced to the quarter-finals of the Miami Masters with a straight-sets win over fifth-seed Caroline Wozniacki this afternoon.

Williams, seeded 16th at the tournament, got off to the perfect start by breaking Denmark's Wozniacki in the first game, but neither woman was strong on serve throughout.

The pair traded five breaks of serve before Williams managed the first hold to move 4-2 ahead on her way to a 6-3 success in the first set.

The second was another topsy-turvy set, but Wozniacki was in control for most of it. She faltered on serve at crucial moments, though, failing to serve out the set and force a decider twice.

A tie-break was required and Williams came through 7-1 to book her place in the fifth round, where she will face 12th-seed Carla Suarez Navarro.
