Nikolay Davydenko stuns David Ferrer to take spot in Qatar Open final

David Ferrer falls at the final hurdle in his quest to reach the Qatar Open final after losing in straight sets to Nikolay Davydenko.

Nikolay Davydenko has pushed aside number one seed David Ferrer in straight sets to reach the final of the Qatar Open.

The Spaniard was favourite to win the semi-final against his unseeded opponent but Davydenko was able to convert a 6-2 6-3 victory to contest for the trophy in Doha.

Ferrer was rattled early on in the game after Davydenko stole the first break and held his serve to go 3-1 up in the opening set.

The Russian world number 44 was able to maintain his dominance on the court courtesy of strong serves and well-executed forehands, and while Ferrer showed glimpses of a fightback, it was not enough to challenge for the first set.

Davydenko remained composed in the second set and once again snatched a break of serve to keep Ferrer on the backfoot and wrap up the semi-final.

The Russian pro will go up against Richard Gasquet for the title.
