Boris Becker believes that Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has the 'right mentality' to compete with tennis's elite.
The Frenchman defeated Roger Federer on his way to last year's Wimbledon semi-final, where he was beaten by eventual champion Novak Djokovic.
Six-time Grand Slam winner Becker has said that players are often overawed when playing the game's top players.
"So often these guys get close to the semis then see a guy called Federer or Djokovic on the other side and they freeze, so I think it's not a question of skill, it's a question of mentality," said Becker.
"I like to think Tsonga has it because he has a big powerful game and his personality is different than others.
"He's just maturing into the best age for tennis and he's got the potential, no doubt about it."
Tsonga was triumphant in the Qatar Open in January before being dumped out of the Australian Open by Kei Nishikori in the fourth round.
