The French Open title holder Li Na is knocked out of the tournament by qualifier Yaroslava Shvedova in the fourth round of the contest.

Li Na has had her dreams of retaining her French Open title dashed after losing 3-6 6-2 6-0 to Yaroslava Shvedova in the fourth round of the competition.

The number seven seed began the contest on the front foot with a number of impressive forehand shots and swift movement around the clay court.

The Chinese pro was able to hold her serve well and snatch the first break of form to take the advantage and grab a 6-3 win in the opening set.

The reigning champion looked set to continue her dominance but Shvedova managed to launch a comeback, which threw Na off her balance and relinquished her control of the match.

Shvedova began to take hold of the contest and blasted through the second set 6-2 to level the scoreline and force the match into a third and final set.

The unseeded Kazakhstani pro was determined to cause an upset in Paris by taking the first vital break of the contest and storm to a three to love lead in the deciding set.

It didn't take long for the 24-year-old to complete her demolition of the seventh seed by grabbing an impressive 6-0 win to reach the quarter-finals of the competition.
