Timea Bacsinszky through to French Open semis

World number 21 Timea Bacsinszky overcomes Alison van Uytvanck in the quarter-finals of the French Open.

Timea Bacsinszky booked her place in the semi-finals of the French Open this afternoon thanks to a 6-4 7-5 victory over Alison van Uytvanck.

Prior to this year, the 25-year-old had never gone beyond the second round at Roland Garros, but now she is just one match away from making what would be a first Grand Slam final appearance of her career.

The Swiss player won through in two evenly contested sets, the second of which saw her break late on to wrap up the triumph in one hour and 47 minutes.

She will now take on world number one and two-time champion Serena Williams, who beat Sara Errani 6-1 6-3 earlier today.
