Kevin Anderson eases through Roland Garros opener

South Africa's Kevin Anderson wins in straight sets over Tim Smyczek at the French Open.

Kevin Anderson wasted little time in recording a 6-4 6-4 6-2 win over Tim Smyczek in the first round of the French Open this afternoon.

The 29-year-old, who has never gone beyond round four at Roland Garros, required just one break of serve in the opening two sets to leave him on the cusp of victory.

The third set was even more straightforward for the South African, who broke his American opponent on a further two occasions to win through in four minutes shy of two hours.

Anderson will now take on Taiwan's Lu Yen-hsun for a place in the third round of the competition.
