Andy Murray: "I was struggling"

Andy Murray admits that he was struggling towards the end of his epic five-set win over Philipp Kohlschreiber in the third round of the French Open.

Andy Murray has revealed that he was struggling for fitness towards the end of his epic five-set win over Philipp Kohlschreiber in round three of the French Open.

The match was tied at 7-7 in the fifth set on Saturday before play was called off due to bad light.

However, Murray was able to see off the German 12-10 when play resumed on Sunday to seal his place in the fourth round at Roland Garros.

"Physically in the fifth set I was struggling. I was cramping," the Brit told the ATP's official website. "So I was disappointed obviously that I wasn't able to finish in four sets. But at the same time, stopping the match probably helped me a little bit, because if I had played seven or eight more games, it probably wouldn't have been great.

"Today was a pretty high standard, I thought. Probably the best standard of the match I think from both of us. He came up with some great shots when he was behind in games today. I thought both of us served a little bit better. It was a good finish to the match."

Murray will now face Spanish world number 25 Fernando Verdasco for a spot in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
