Petra Kvitova overcomes Marina Erakovic in Cincinnati

Former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova sees off Marina Erakovic over three sets.

Petra Kvitova has progressed to the third round of the Western & Southern Open with a 6-4 6-7 6-3 victory over Marina Erakovic.

The 2011 Wimbledon champion took 45 minutes to claim the first set courtesy of a single break of serve, with her opponent squandering five break points along the way.

The second set was a close affair as Erakovic continued to lack that clinical edge despite playing some good tennis, blowing four set points before edging a tie-break 9-7.

Both players dropped serve early in the decider, but it was Kvitova who dug deepest to break Erakovic in the eighth game, and then serve out the match.
