Victoria Azarenka says that it was more emotional winning the Australian Open for the second time.

Victoria Azarenka has said that winning the Australian Open for the second time was more emotional than the first time around.

The world number one beat Li Na in three sets in the women's final yesterday, defending the title that she won in 2012.

The Belarusian said: "It's been like a rollercoaster, but it was a great experience. I came here not to defend, I came here to win another title.

"Last year was such a special moment that ever since it happened I wanted to feel that again. This one is way more emotional. It's gonna be extra special for me, for sure.

"To be in the same list with all those champions, it's a privilege. Right now it's hard to believe that. I think of myself as a nine-year-old girl who's playing against the wall, picturing those big moments. Right now I'm still living those moments. It's like a dream."

The 23-year-old caused controversy in her semi-final when she took a lengthy medical timeout after being broken by Sloane Stephens, to come back and beat the American teenager.

The win ensures that Azarenka will remain at the top of the world rankings when the updated list is published tomorrow.
