Stephen Hendry is on the verge of a huge shock after taking 12-4 lead over defending champion John Higgins in their second-round clash at the World Championship.

Stephen Hendry rolled back the years to take a shock 12-4 lead over defending champion John Higgins in their second-round clash at the World Championship.

The seven-time winner started with a 5-3 advantage from Friday's opening session at the Crucible before he went on to win seven further frames in the evening session.

Hendry, who is playing Higgins for the first time in Sheffield, now only needs one more frame to cause one of the biggest shocks of this year's tournament.

The winner is likely to play Stephen Maguire after the world number seven established a 11-5 lead over Joe Perry.
