Jamie Roberts: Wales ready for "warfare"

Wales centre Jamie Roberts says that the team are prepared for "physical warfare" in their Rugby World Cup quarter-final against South Africa.

Jamie Roberts has said that Wales will be ready for "physical warfare" in their Rugby World Cup quarter-final against South Africa at Twickenham.

The 2011 semi-finalists, who finished second in Pool A behind Australia to secure their spot in the last eight, have won just one of their last 17 matches against the Springboks.

Ahead of tomorrow's match, the centre told reporters: "The challenge above all else is to get the mind right and put your body on the line for physical warfare.

"I will never forget the second Lions Test at Loftus Versfeld [Pretoria] in 2009 when there were five of us in the hospital afterwards. That was interesting. There were five of us in an ambulance after that game going to the hospital. That is what lies in store for us this weekend.

"It's pretty gruesome, but that is the nature of the game now. You have got to be prepared to put your body on the line and take it to places where you haven't been before. It is a World Cup quarter-final, and to play in games of this magnitude is what you dream about."

The winner of tomorrow's match at Twickenham will face either New Zealand or France in the semi-finals.
