There were few opportunities for either side in the opening 30 minutes, but Carlo del Fava was sin-binned, allowing Stephen Myler to add a pair of penalties before the break.

The start to the second half was also quiet, but the home side were able to up the tempo with just over 20 minutes to go, resulting in tries for Luther Burrell and James Wilson in the space of six minutes.

The visitors created little in the way of the chances throughout the match, struggling to find gaps while attacking.

The result leaves Northampton two points behind Saracens, while the Falcons sit ninth in the table.
